GODSPELL!
YOU are the light of the world!
It’s that time of year again! Nazareth’s Fall production is quickly coming up. This year it’s a musical named Godspell.
While Godspell is the story of the Gospel of Matthew, it is truly the story of a community coming together to believe in Jesus. His teachings come across in the modern retelling of His parables, such as the Prodigal Son and the Unjust Judge. The ensemble take turns all acting out and narrating these parables, as they learn the Good News and come to love Jesus by the end of the show.
The music is incredible, and moving. The songs serve as ways to express how each person comes to realize how amazing Jesus is.
When asked why people should come see the show, Junior Christiana Romano said, “Godspell is so great for all ages, it’s like an emotional roller-coaster! You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll be tempted to sing-along as the actors go through the journey with Christ.” Senior Aileen O’Carroll added, “You don’t need to be religious…just open to hearing a profound message about love and life. Godspell offers fun skits with an upbeat atmosphere!”
This show is unique in that there are only three named characters with two actors playing them. There is Jesus, played by Senior Matthew Serafin and there is John the Baptist and Judas played by Senior Tom Noesen. The rest of the cast goes by their true first names to signify how each of us can find faith, and that belief is not limited to only those who knew Jesus in His time. Because of this, parts are delegated by who has the solo for each song.
The actors aren’t the only ones who’ve been putting in work. The set and paint crews have been working tirelessly to ensure that the set is perfect, spending many after-school hours and nights in the auditorium! Not to mention the student directors (Seniors Vicki Lesnicki and Cara Stewart, Juniors Cammy Lang and Molly Gros) who have been to every rehearsal since the beginning, assisting Director Mrs. White with everything needing to be done.
The talent is incredible and the story is engaging…you do not want to miss this show!
