J.K. Rowling releases 3 new Harry Potter books

Marisa Barranco, Staff Writer

In the Harry Potter Universe, September 1st typically marks the first day of school for those attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but September 6th marked the day that J.K. Rowling released three new short stories set in the same universe. Fortunately, the short stories are ebooks, so the average wizard won’t have to make a trip to Diagon Alley to get their books!

The stories Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists; Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies; and Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide were released on Pottermore, Rowling’s official website for anything Harry Potter related. For a measly price of $3 for each book, nearly any witch or wizard can get them.

According to Pottermore, Power, Politics and Pesky Poltergeists gives readers insight into the more ominous side of the wizarding world, including background on Dolores Umbridge, Horace Slughorn, Azkaban, and Ministers of Magic. Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies concentrates on the characters many readers know and love, such as Minerva McGonagall and Remus Lupin. Also in Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies, Sybill Trelawney and Silvanus Kettleburn make an appearance as well.

While Pottermore’s description for “Hogwarts: An Incomplete and Unreliable Guide” is less specific, the story largely focuses on different facets of Hogwarts. These include school lessons, Platform 9¾, the grounds and more.

Rowling previously published Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which the play of the same name is based off of. Unlike the newest stories, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is written as a screenplay and focuses on the Potter family, beginning 19 years after the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Nevertheless, fans of Rowling are sure to learn something new from these fresh installments.
