Coding robots teach kids about computer programming
Coding has become part of everyday life. Not only is it behind all of the apps on the Apple Store, Android Store, etc, but it is also the reason why computers have programs that allow people to easily collect data and share it.
As jobs are opening to the new generation, more people are needed who know how to program. In year’s past, the number of college students that studied to be computer engineers wasn’t as high as some would hope, so the question arose, how can students be prepared for such a high-level field before they even go to college?
Vikas Gupta, former Google worker, answered this question with a brilliant idea that has changed how kids and young adults see coding and programming. He came up with the idea of a robot that will challenge kids to begin thinking like programmers.
The robots he invented are Dot and Dash. The robots are controlled by a mobile device and teach children how programming works, although they can’t actually see the code behind all of that. They can make the robots say something or make it do different actions. There are many levels and more programs are updated into the app.
The popularity of these robots has increased and many kids under the age of 10 have found a new hobby of coding. Not only are these robots providing a new way for kids to entertain themselves, but they are changing the future of computer programming.
