Seniors are officially in their home stretch- the fourth and last quarter of their years at Naz. Fourth quarter senior year is the last opportunity for the seniors to leave their legacy on Nazareth and the underclassmen, and the last few weeks that they will be considered “high-schoolers.” After these eight weeks, seniors will officially set foot into the real world of college and beyond. These last eight weeks of school will be different than the other 120 weeks of their high school careers in many ways, both physically and emotionally.
As of Monday March 11, the official start of fourth quarter, seniors were granted their privileges for the remainder of the school year. This year, these privileges consist of: gym shoes with ankle socks for both girls and boys, button down blouses for girls and shirts with ties for boys in lieu of polo’s, college t-shirts and sweatshirts on Wednesdays, out of uniform every Friday, and various lunches provided by restaurants of their choosing. Upon seeing many of their classmates enjoy these privileges, it will officially hit many seniors, that the end is near, closer than they may have realized.
Sentimentally, these last eight weeks will be a roller coaster of emotions. Most seniors, who are probably worried more about their futures and college than a trivial homework assignment, suffer from what is commonly referred to as “Senioritis.” Anxiety will set in as students wait to hear from more colleges and stress over making their final decisions by May. There will be much anticipation for the senior-themed events that are in the future, including the fashion show, Prom, Circle the City, and of course, Graduation.
Senior Jackie Nowicki describes these next few weeks as being “kind of bittersweet.”
“On one hand I am looking forward to all of the new experiences college will bring, but on the other hand it will be sad not seeing all of my friends every day at Naz,” Nowicki said.
The fast approaching end of the year will be bittersweet to say the least- sadness at leaving behind Naz, which has been a second home to most for four years coupled with excitement at looking into the future, and a new home at college. Senior Alex D’Agostino agrees by saying “Being a fourth quarter senior is definitely bittersweet. I’m moving into the next chapter of my life; yet I know I have to leave Nazareth, a place that has become my home.”
Many seniors echo these feelings, yet are excited for everything in store for them over the next couple of months. Nazareth Academy wishes all Seniors the best of luck as they finish up their fourth and final quarter as Roadrunners.
