October 21, 2015
Mu Alpha Theta is a national high school and two-year college mathematics honor society that Nazareth is a part of. Mu Alpha Theta recently took a field trip to the STEM conference at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The trip consisted of 21 students, geometry teacher and leader of Mu Alpha Theta Mrs. Lorraine Weber, and bus driver Mr. Phil Nache. They left at 5 a.m and traveled 3 hours to Iowa where they got a tour of the campus and participated in four labs.
The members of Mu Alpha Theta are to complete 6 hours of math and 6 hours of math service, in total having 12 hours. By going on this trip, they fulfilled their 6 hours of extended math for membership at Nazareth, which means they will work to fulfill an additional 6 hours throughout the school year. One of the ways they will achieve these hours is through offering homework help to Naz students.
