Student Council organizes second annual Ski Trip

Grab those skis! Grab those snowboards! Let’s hit those slopes!

Nazareth students can now actually hit the slopes on January 29th from 5PM Friday evening to 6AM Saturday morning at Chestnut Mountain in Galena.

The event brought to Nazareth by Student Council has replaced the winter dance for the past two years. It is organized by the Family Ministry Office of the Archdiocese, and it seems to be a hit! Much of the positive support and feedback from last year’s trip continued into this year.

Katelyn Kornafel ’18, going for the first time this year, is one of many students buzzing with excitement. “I’m excited because I get to do something that I’ve never done before plus I get to spend that experience with one of my best friends.”

If skiing or snowboarding isn’t your thing, there are a few other things to keep yourself busy for the thirteen hours. For the price of $102, students are getting skis or a snowboard rental, transportation to the resort, a helmet, and free lessons. It doesn’t end there though, students can also enjoy a DJ and snack bars all around the lodge, and it still gets better. Along with all the fun activities planned, the resort is closed off to the public at 10PM and is to be used by Nazareth and a few other catholic schools and youth ministries. A familiar school that is joining Nazareth in the trip is Marist. Marist introduced Nazareth to the ski/snowboarding event and enjoys the event as much as the Nazareth family does.

A frequent question that pops up is: do you have to be a professional skier/snowboarder in order to go and/or have fun? And the answer is definitely no. Lessons are included with the price and Mrs. Gurney, the Guidance Director and College Counselor at Nazareth, who is in charge of the event states that, “12 out of the 60 plus kids from Naz are bringing their own skis,” and are experienced skiers/snowboarders.

So pack up your gear, grab a group of friends, and dress warmly for a night of fun winter events, whether you are experienced or not.
