Looking ahead to the summer Olympics
March 6, 2016
Every two years, the world is united through a marvelous series of competitive sports. This upcoming summer, the Olympic Games will be held in Rio, Brazil. With over 10,000 athletes from 206 countries, 42 sports will be contested.
Since 2015, people have been discussing what they will be looking forward to in the games. According to writers from “The Guardian”, gymnast Simone Biles from Texas is someone to watch out for. She has defeated many well known gymnasts, including Gabby Douglas.
The Women’s USA soccer team just won the World Cup, so can they win in the Olympics as well? There is much debate whether the team will be able to succeed with many of the players reaching an older age and the reluctance to add younger women to the roster.
After 112 years, golf has returned to the Olympic Games. A new course will be built and there will be individual events for women and men. After 92 years, rugby will also return to the games. The seven-a-side version will be played.
The sport that has some concern for the US is men’s basketball. They are still waiting on Lebron James to decide whether or not he will be joining the team in Rio. With Derrick Rose and Paul George sidelined by injuries during their peaking point, the men’s team really has to shape their team before the games, which start in August.
