Ellen Polzin, the new Front Desk Administrative Assistant was born in Chicago and has been involved in Catholic education all her life. She attended Catholic grade school and high school and after earning her undergraduate degree at Illinois State University she went on to Benedictine University for her Master’s.
After college, she started working at St. Francis High school in Wheaton. After a few years she moved to IC Catholic Prep High School in Elmhurst. When the position at the front desk opened up last year at Naz, she thought it could be a good move for her. “I just decided to throw my hat in the ring,” she said. She never knew if it would lead anywhere, but she’s happy it did.
Polzin is enjoying working at Nazareth so far. She said, “I was very impressed with the school and with the administration.” Polzin acknowledges that it is a bit more of a challenge than her work at IC, due to the larger student body.
She said that she has more than double the amount of students to keep track of here. “It’s a little bit of a whirlwind and I’m still kind of getting used to that,” she said. Even though it is more challenging, she said everyone is always willing to help her. “The people have been so welcoming and so nice, always willing to help if I have an issue,” Polzin said.
Even with all the demands of a new position, she still finds time for her activities and hobbies. Polzin said she likes taking walks and swimming in her pool. She also spends time with her two daughters and five grandkids as well as their trained service dog, Mabel.
