2004 Naz alum Katie McKeon returned to her alma mater this year to continue her work in campus ministry. “I had a great experience at Naz! I got a lot of leadership skills, spent a lot of time in Campus Ministry and I met great friends,” McKeon said.
Throughout her life, McKeon always knew she wanted to work in campus ministry. “In high school, I did a program called Peace Builders. I got to spend a week during summer with other students and through that experience started an organization called F.I.S.H.,” said McKeon. F.I.S.H. stands for Friends In Service and Hospitality, it is still an active service club at Naz.
After highschool, McKeon stayed busy. She studied Social Welfare and Justice, Women’s Studies and Theology at Marquette University. Later in college McKeon did an internship in Cape Town, South Africa for a program called Women Building Peace where her job was to listen to and record women’s life stories.
McKeon has also been able to do a lot of volunteer work that has taught her very important lessons. She said that she learned strong leadership skills that she has been able to carry over to her overall life as well.
Her leadership shows. McKeon has hit the ground running as a part of Campus Ministry at Naz. She has already participated in many school events including Freshman retreat, Junior retreat, and the opening school mass.
It was the values of the Congregation of St. Joseph that pulled McKeon to come back to Naz. “I love the mission and charism of Nazareth and the Congregation of St. Joseph. I am looking forward to working in a community that values inclusion and cares for one another,” said McKeon.
Outside of campus ministry, McKeon has two children, 5 and 7-years old. One of her hobbies is gardening; she has a big yard with a pumpkin patch and lots of veggies and flowers.
