Communications Coordinator Roxanne Gentry joined the Nazareth Academy family this school year and from day one, with a camera in hand, she has been capturing the Nazareth spirit to share with the school community.
Before coming to Naz, Gentry studied at the University of Wisconsin and developed an interest in 18th and 19th century British Literature and even went to Edinburgh, Scotland to get her Master’s Degree in English Literature. What she was drawn to in her studies was how literature is turned into other things, like movies, book illustrations, or updated novelizations, said Gentry.
Later, Gentry taught Introductory Writing and Communication at the University of Connecticut and then taught at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn and worked as a guide for first year students on how to navigate college life. She said she taught students how to articulate their ideas and arguments, but also make sure they knew their ideas were worth sharing.
In her new role, Gentry’s goal is to make sure Naz’s message is promoted through social media posts, press releases, and articles for our publications.
With a background in storytelling, Gentry knew she wanted to share Naz’s story. “It looked like an amazing opportunity to get involved in education again but from a different angle,” said Gentry.
Gentry feels she made the right choice to come to Nazareth. “Nazareth is such a cool community, it was one of the things that really appealed to me, the way that there is a clear sense of identity and purpose here,” she said.
