Juniors McCahey Hardy and Mackenzie Hyland are headed to the Girls Tennis State Final Competition today. The doubles partners commanded the court this season and it is paying off with their earned spot at state.

This new partnership – they have not played together before this season – helped the team succeed in the conference and earn 2nd place in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. Though they did not start the season as doubles partners, they were moved around a few times and were previously partnered with other players, Hardy and Hyland played well together and finished 4th in the conference tournament and 3rd in sectionals.

Throughout the season, the duo had lots of fun together. A strong friendship outside of the sport helped that, but some of the incentives of the season really appealed to them. Hyland thought the Saturday Invitationals the team attended were really fun and Hardy especially enjoyed the “Fun Friday” practices.  “Those practices were where we dressed up for themes and it was really fun,” said Hardy. Hyland also happened to be fond of when Coach Lisa Straface would bring bagels for the team.

Upon the prospect of heading to the State today, the duo is very excited. But, that does not mean they are not nervous. Hyland said, “I’m very excited but nervous too.”  Although nerves are definitely affecting them, Hyland thinks they can relax and have fun. “We already qualified for state and that’s a big deal, so there is no pressure.”  “We have nothing to lose and can just have fun,” added Hardy.

Despite the nerves and the competition ahead, Hyland and Hardy are headed to State with excitement on Thursday and while they represent the school, the Nazareth community wishes them luck!
