The term aviation encompasses far more than just pilots. It is largely due to the work off of the tarmac that allows the airplanes to ever take flight. Aviation is a field requiring tireless focus and an unfaltering work ethic. Qualities comparable to those of Nazareth students who lead or moderate a club. Two sophomores in particular personify these traits, Carl Robst and Dan Bier, both of whom utilize these qualities by establishing and leading Nazareth Academy’s first ever Aviation Club. A club rooted in educating students in the area of aeronautical science, the basis of all aviation.
Both students come from families with backgrounds in aviation and accredit their interest to their fathers. Joining forces, Carl and Dan decided that they “wanted to bring something new to the school,” and thus Nazareth Academy’s Aviation Club was born. Before receiving official approval from the administration, the two sophomores had to discuss the idea with Mrs. Hawkins. From there, they wrote up an extensive request form, articulating the objective of the club and their future plans for it. Generally, meetings last about ten minutes long, during which Carl and Dan announce upcoming events and discuss their ideas for the club.
By embodying the characteristics of focus and hard work, Carl and Dan founded a club of their own. The initiative they took is admirable and as a school, Nazareth is anxious to watch the Aviation Club grow over the upcoming years. After graduating from Nazareth, Carl and Dan do not plan on pursuing aviation professionally, but rather continuing it as a lifelong passion and hobby.
